From Los Caños de Meca to Barbate
Approx. 7km, walking time 2,5-3h, easy and also possible with
children. You start at the end of Los Caños de Meca, park somewhere
close to the "Pequeña Lulú" cafe and head straight on along
the cliffs into the natural park. Staying close to the cliffs, you
will find the hiking path automatically. At the beginning you have
spectacular views over the ocean, then you enter the woods - the
longest part of the sandy path leads through the shady pine forest.
More or less in the middle you reach the old defence tower Torre de
Tajo. At an altitude of more than 100m above sea level you will
have the most enjoyable views over the coastline. An ideal place
for a picnic! Torwards the end you leave the pine forest just above
the secluded Playa de Yerbabuena. A cold beer in the yacht harbour
is the perfect reward after your excursion.
Through the marshes of Barbate (marismas)
Length 12,7km, medium difficulty. The path starts at kilometre
2.2 of the highway A-314 from Vejer to Barbate and goes through a
large part of the marches formed by the mouth of the Barbate River.
The marches are a humid environment of enormous value for the
fauna, primarily for the water bird populations, but also
for fish, shellfish and crabs.
La Muela and Santa Lucia
An abundance of water and protection from the wind have
provided a subtropical micro-climate to Santa Lucía, with exuberant
vegetation. The track leads past historical water mills and
along an aqueduct of Roman origins, restored by the Moorish
occupants in the middle ages. Recommended restaurants: La
Castillería and La Tajea in Santa Lucía; Il Forno in La Muela;
Venta Patría in La Patría.
Art and Culture
The NMAC Foundation Montenmedio of
Contemporary Art has a permanent exhibition on the

a visit with a stroll through the woods where you'll see
deer and enjoy the peace and quiet. Have a snack in
the Café de Kurupay. Opening hours: 10-14, 17-20:30 in summer,
10:30-14:30, 16-18 in winter. Entry 5 Euro, children under 12
